Ranchi Schools Gear Up for CBSE Class X Second Board Exam Applications
Schools across Ranchi are actively engaged in preparing detailed lists of candidates who intend to appear for the second CBSE Class X examination this year. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a dual-exam system for Class X, offering students a valuable opportunity to enhance their academic scores if they are dissatisfied with their performance in the initial test.
Application Timeline and Fee Details
Following the announcement of results from the first exam on Wednesday, CBSE issued an official notification outlining a specific application period. Students must submit their applications and examination fees between April 16 and April 20. To accommodate late submissions, a grace period is available until April 22, during which candidates can apply by paying an additional late fee.
High Demand for Mathematics Paper
Current trends indicate a significant surge in applications for the second exam, with mathematics emerging as the most sought-after subject. Rajesh Pillai, principal of Kairali School in Ranchi, commented, "Students have already begun submitting their application fees. The majority are opting for the mathematics paper, as it was perceived as challenging, and they believe they can achieve better results in the subsequent examination. Securing higher marks in this subject is crucial for students aiming to gain admission into the science stream."
Pillai further noted that approximately 90 out of 256 students who appeared for the Class X exam at his school have expressed interest in the second test. However, he emphasized that a final count will only be confirmed by April 20.
School-Specific Application Statistics
Samita Sinha, principal of Surendranath Centenary School, reported that around 15% of their students are expected to participate in the second exam. This year, 208 students from the school took the Class X exam, all of whom passed successfully. "Most applicants have chosen mathematics, with some opting for science. We have instructed all interested students to complete their applications and fee payments by Saturday," she stated.
At Nirja Sahay DAV Public School, 45 out of 132 students who appeared for the Class X exam had already applied for the second test by Friday, highlighting a proactive approach among candidates.
Flexibility and Options for Students
CBSE regional officer Ram Veer provided important clarifications regarding the application process. Students who initially registered for the second exam immediately after the first results can still withdraw their applications if they change their minds. For those applying now, payment of the requisite fees is mandatory. Additionally, CBSE allows flexibility in subject choices: students who took mathematics (standard) in the first exam may switch to mathematics (basic) for the second, and vice-versa. Candidates are permitted to reappear for up to three subjects, offering them a strategic chance to boost their overall scores.
This initiative by CBSE aims to reduce academic pressure and provide a fair chance for improvement, aligning with broader educational reforms focused on student welfare and performance enhancement.
