CBSE Unveils 2026 Class 10 Second Board Exam Schedule and Guidelines

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the examination schedule and comprehensive guidelines for the Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026. This marks the inaugural implementation of the board's new two-board examination policy, designed to provide students with enhanced academic opportunities.

Key Dates and Submission Phases

Under the new policy, students will be permitted to retake examinations in up to three subjects, with the exams scheduled for May 2026. CBSE has adopted a systematic approach for the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) and payment of examination fees, structured into multiple phases:

  • LOC Submission – First Phase: March 18 to 31, 2026.
  • Examination Fee Payment – First Phase: Must be completed within five days after the declaration of results.
  • LOC Submission – Second Phase: One to five days after the declaration of results.
  • Examination Fee Payment – Second Phase: One to five days after the declaration of results.
  • LOC Submission – Third Phase (with late fee): Seven to eight days after the declaration of results.
  • Examination Fee Payment – Third Phase (with late fee): Seven to eight days after the declaration of results.

School-Led Process and Responsibilities

For the first time, LOC submission will be conducted exclusively by schools. Principals are mandated to verify all student details and submit accurate information promptly. Individual submissions by students will not be accepted. CBSE has urged school authorities to clearly communicate eligibility criteria, applicable subjects, submission deadlines, and fee schedules to students and parents to prevent last-minute confusion and ensure a smooth process.

Strategic Participation and Compartment Candidates

The board has advised that the second board examination should be restricted to students who genuinely require performance improvement, discouraging unnecessary participation. Early submission of the LOC is recommended to aid in logistical planning for examination centers and subjects.

Students falling into the compartment category after the main examination will need to fill out the LOC again, with potential variations in subject combinations. CBSE emphasizes strict adherence to deadlines, noting that access to the submission system will close at 11:59:59 PM on the last day of each phase.

This well-thought-out plan by CBSE aims to offer students an opportunity to clear examinations in the first year of the two-board examination policy's implementation, reflecting a strategic move to enhance academic flexibility and support.
