Campus Shooting Eyewitnesses Describe Moments of Panic and Chaos
Eyewitnesses have provided harrowing accounts of the panic and chaos that erupted during a shooting incident on a college campus. The event unfolded with students initially mistaking the sound of gunfire for an explosion, leading to widespread confusion and fear.
Initial Confusion and Terrifying Realization
Sarvesh Pandey, a classmate of the victim, recounted the initial moments of the shooting. "We were inside the classroom when we heard a loud sound, like a bomb blast. It went off once, then again. At first, we thought someone was creating a disturbance. But when we rushed outside, we saw a student, Manjeet, firing bullets," he said. This description highlights how the sudden violence was misinterpreted, delaying the recognition of the grave danger.
Desperate Attempts to Help and Escape
Sarvesh further described his frantic efforts to assist his friend amidst the chaos. "I ran towards my friend to save him, but the accused pointed the gun at me. I had to run for my life. When I tried again to reach him, the accused had already fled," he explained. This underscores the immediate threat faced by students and the difficult choices they had to make in a life-threatening situation.
Details of the Assailant and the Attack
According to Sarvesh, the assailant was not acting alone. "Manjeet was not alone — there were one or two others with him. He fired around four rounds," he stated. Another student present on the campus added that the accused continued firing even while escaping, indicating a sustained and aggressive attack that heightened the terror on campus.
Aftermath and Emotional Toll
Visuals from outside the trauma centre captured the emotional devastation following the incident. Emotionally distraught students were seen breaking down upon learning about their friend's death, with several crying inconsolably. This scene reflects the profound impact of the violence on the campus community, leaving deep scars and grief in its wake.
The eyewitness testimonies collectively paint a vivid picture of a campus thrown into disarray by sudden violence, with students grappling with fear, confusion, and loss in the aftermath of the shooting.
