Five Bihar Government School Teachers Arrested at India-Nepal Border for Alleged Intoxication
In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about student safety, five government school teachers from Bihar were arrested at the India-Nepal border in Supaul district on Friday. The teachers were allegedly intoxicated while escorting students on an educational tour under the Chief Minister Bihar Darshan Scheme.
Breath-Analyser Test Reveals Intoxication at Bhimnagar Checkpoint
The teachers, hailing from Madhepura and Khagaria districts, were returning from Nepal with students when they were intercepted at the Bhimnagar checkpoint. Officials grew suspicious of their behavior and conducted a breath-analyser test, which confirmed that all five teachers were under the influence of alcohol.
Inspector Sanjay Priyadarshi of the district prohibition team stated, "When the teachers were inspected and a breath-analyser machine was used, the machine's readings shocked us. All five teachers were found to be under the influence of liquor."
Identities of Arrested Teachers and Their Schools
The arrested teachers have been identified as:
- Deepnarayan Ram from Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Parihari in Kumarkhand block, Madhepura
- English Kumar from Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Parihari in Kumarkhand block, Madhepura
- Dhirendra Kumar from Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Parihari in Kumarkhand block, Madhepura
- Sivansh Kumar alias Shakti Shaman from a middle school in Khagaria
- Mithu Kumar from a middle school in Khagaria
All five have been sent to judicial custody following their arrest.
District Administration Takes Stern Action
Supaul District Magistrate Sawan Kumar has taken the matter seriously, confirming that suspension proceedings have been initiated against the arrested teachers. Madhepura District Magistrate Abhishek Ranjan has directed the district education officer to investigate the entire incident and submit a detailed report.
An official from the Madhepura district administration warned, "Not only will cases be filed against these teachers under the liquor prohibition law, but they may even face termination from service."
Serious Questions Raised About Student Safety
Inspector Priyadarshi expressed grave concern about the implications of the incident, noting, "Instead of educating the children about historical sites, these teachers consumed liquor in the valleys of Nepal and were travelling with the children in an intoxicated state, raising serious questions about the safety of the students."
The incident has sparked outrage among education officials and parents alike, highlighting potential lapses in supervision during school-organized trips. The Chief Minister Bihar Darshan Scheme, designed to provide educational exposure to students, now faces scrutiny regarding its implementation and safety protocols.
Authorities are investigating whether additional violations occurred during the trip and examining the broader implications for teacher accountability and student welfare in government school programs.
