In a significant crackdown on examination irregularities, the education department of Beed zilla parishad has suspended seven employees following malpractice cases reported on the first day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. The incident occurred at an examination centre in Chousala, near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, prompting swift administrative action.
Official Inquiry Leads to Suspension
Education officer Priyarani Patil confirmed the suspensions, stating that the employees failed to ensure the exams were conducted in a free and fair manner, thereby violating established rules. "The suspension action against the staffers has been taken after carrying out an official inquiry. These staffers belong to two different educational institutions," Patil emphasized. This move underscores the department's commitment to maintaining integrity in the examination process.
Criminal Proceedings Initiated Against 17 Staffers
Earlier, the education department authorities had initiated criminal proceedings against 17 staffers for malpractice cases and other irregularities at the Chousala centre. An offence has been registered under the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examination Act, 1982, with the Neknoor police handling the matter. This legal step highlights the severity of the violations and the department's resolve to address them through judicial means.
Drone Surveillance Reveals Unruly Scenes
Unruly scenes were captured in drone surveillance outside the Chousala exam centre, where a sizable gathering of parents and others was observed. Authorities suspect this crowd had the possible intention to support malpractices. Further inquiry revealed that malpractices were not limited to the exterior; they also occurred inside the exam centre, prompting authorities to take immediate and decisive action to curb such activities.
Contrast with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division
Meanwhile, in a contrasting report, no malpractice case was registered in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division during both sessions of the HSC examinations on Tuesday. This disparity highlights the localized nature of the issue in Chousala and underscores the need for stringent monitoring across all examination centres to prevent similar incidents elsewhere.
