Zimbabwean Student in Ludhiana Becomes Social Media Sensation
Tanyaradzwa Prospera Dengu, a 21-year-old student from Zimbabwe studying at CT University in Ludhiana, has taken the internet by storm. His recent video, where he impersonated a bus conductor, garnered over 2.4 million views on Instagram within just a few days, making him an overnight social media sensation.
From Bus Conductor Act to Viral Fame
In the now-famous clip, Tanya, as he is popularly known, enthusiastically called out to passengers in a manner reminiscent of local bus conductors. Recounting the incident, he said, "When I arrived in Jagraon, the bus was about to drop some people. As I was stepping off, I heard the conductor shouting 'Moga, Moga.' I thought, why not help him out? I started yelling 'Moga, Moga, aajo aajo' and asked the conductor to record me. It worked perfectly, and suddenly, I became famous."
Embracing Punjabi Culture and Cuisine
Tanya has wholeheartedly embraced life in Punjab. He is actively learning the Punjabi language and enjoys indulging in local delicacies such as paranthas and butter chicken. He expressed deep appreciation for the warmth of the Punjabi people, stating, "Punjabis are incredibly helpful and always show respect to foreigners. I truly feel at home here."
Some of his favorite Punjabi phrases include "Sat Sri Akal," "namaste," "hanji," and "oh paaji kive ho tusi," which he uses daily to connect with locals.
Exploring India's Diversity
Beyond Ludhiana, Tanya has traveled to various parts of India, each leaving a lasting impression. He recently visited Amritsar and was captivated by the Golden Temple. "I was recently in Amritsar. It's such an amazing place," he shared with a beaming smile. He described the serenity of the sarovar, the community-driven langar service, and the overall spiritual ambiance. "You feel something very peaceful there. It's not just beautiful; it's special," he added.
His travels also took him to Manali, where he admired the snow-capped mountains of Himachal Pradesh. He noted that from the vibrant streets of Punjab to the scenic landscapes of Himachal, India's diversity has made his stay memorable and enriching.
Future Plans and Content Creation
Looking ahead, Tanya is keen on leveraging his newfound fame for meaningful content. He revealed plans to create a video addressing the ongoing LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder shortage affecting households and small businesses across India. "I plan to make a video about the shortage of LPG cylinders," he said, believing that his perspective as an international student experiencing similar challenges could resonate with his growing audience.
Offering advice to fellow international students, Tanya emphasized, "All I can say is to focus on your studies and always do what you love, what makes you happy. That's what matters."
Uncertain Future and Potential Stay in India
When asked about his post-graduation plans, Tanya was candid about the uncertainty. "After completing my studies, I was thinking of going back to Zimbabwe. But because of what's happening, I think I might stay," he admitted, hinting at the positive experiences and opportunities he has found in India.
His journey from a cheerful student to a viral content creator underscores the power of cultural exchange and the welcoming spirit of Punjab, making Ludhiana a second home for this Zimbabwean youth.
