Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates Eastern UP's First TCS-Backed Centre of Excellence in Gorakhpur
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated eastern Uttar Pradesh's inaugural Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Maharana Pratap Institute of Technology (MPIT) in Gorakhpur on Wednesday. This world-class facility, established through a collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), represents a significant investment in technological education and innovation for the region.
High-Profile Inauguration and Strategic Partnership
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent figures, including Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, underscoring the strategic importance of this public-private partnership. Developed at an approximate cost of Rs50 crore, this Centre of Excellence has been meticulously designed to provide cutting-edge training in emerging technologies that are shaping the future global economy.
Comprehensive Technological Infrastructure
The CoE complex houses specialized centers dedicated to multiple frontier technologies:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Rs9.56 crore investment
- Cybersecurity with Rs6.19 crore allocation
- 3D Printing with Rs6.79 crore funding
- Space Technology with Rs2.09 crore investment
- Drone Technology with Rs1.84 crore allocation
Additionally, Rs19.35 crore has been invested in infrastructure development and Rs2.40 crore in furnishings, creating a comprehensive learning environment that integrates academic programs with practical, hands-on experience.
AI Awareness Initiative with World Record Ambition
Concurrent with the inauguration, authorities launched a groundbreaking 60-day 'AI Awareness for All' training workshop that aims to establish a world record in participation. This ambitious program covers multiple critical areas:
- Generative AI tools and effective prompting techniques
- Responsible AI implementation and ethical considerations
- Cyber hygiene practices and digital safety protocols
- Fraud prevention strategies in the digital landscape
A specialized parallel module targeting the agricultural sector includes training on AI applications in farming, weather-based crop planning methodologies, and implementation of digital farming tools to enhance agricultural productivity.
Broad Educational Impact and Employment Enhancement
According to MPIT Director Sudhir Agrawal, the facility is equipped with advanced laboratories specifically designed to foster innovation, skill development, and startup incubation. This initiative directly addresses employability challenges by providing students with industry-relevant competencies.
The Centre of Excellence will serve not only MPIT students but also extend its benefits to learners from 15 AICTE-approved technical institutions across eastern Uttar Pradesh. These include prestigious institutions such as Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology, Government Polytechnic Gorakhpur, and the NIELIT Gorakhpur center, among others.
This collaborative educational model represents a transformative approach to technical education in the region, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements while positioning eastern Uttar Pradesh as an emerging hub for technological innovation and skilled workforce development.
