VTU Unveils Plans for Quantum Computing Lab in Bengaluru
In a significant move highlighting the swift advancements in technology, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is set to establish a specialized quantum computing laboratory at its Bengaluru campus. The announcement was made by Prof. S Vidyashankar, vice-chancellor of VTU, during the inauguration of the two-day National Quantum Students' Conference and Symposium-2026 in Belagavi on Thursday.
Conference Highlights and Expert Insights
The event, organized by the VTU Quantum Club, Jnana Sangama, in collaboration with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), featured prominent speakers including Prof. AR Usha Devi from the department of physics at Bangalore University and TS Mahesh, head of the physics department at IISER Pune. They delivered talks on the latest developments in quantum technologies, emphasizing their growing importance.
Prof. Vidyashankar underscored the transformative potential of quantum computing, stating, "Quantum computing will play a transformative role across sectors in the coming years." This initiative aims to position VTU at the forefront of cutting-edge research and education in this emerging field.
Strong Participation and Academic Engagement
The conference attracted over 200 students and numerous resource persons, fostering a vibrant academic exchange. More than 50 research papers were scheduled for presentation over the two days, showcasing the depth of interest and innovation in quantum studies among the student community.
Key attendees included VTU student club coordinator Prahlad Rathod and special officer Harish Bendigeri, who were present to support the event. The establishment of the quantum computing lab is expected to enhance hands-on learning and research opportunities, aligning with global trends in technological education.
