Telangana Technical Colleges Association Demands Transparency in JNTUH Inspections
The Telangana State Technical Colleges Employees Association (TSTCEA) has issued a strong plea to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH), urging the university to ensure that upcoming inspections of engineering colleges are conducted with full transparency. This call comes amid serious allegations of irregularities in faculty appointments and salary practices across numerous institutions.
Allegations of Unqualified Leadership and Salary Discrepancies
The association has raised alarming concerns, alleging that several engineering colleges are operating with unqualified principals. TSTCEA has demanded that JNTUH publicly disclose the list of such institutions on its official website to promote accountability.
Furthermore, the association highlighted widespread issues with non-payment of salaries to faculty members. Ayineni Santosh Kumar, state president of TSTCEA, emphasized the need for thorough verification of financial records. "We want to flag widespread non-payment of salaries to faculty. There is a need for verification of payslips, along with Form 16 and Form 26AS records, which would expose discrepancies," Kumar stated.
He added that despite colleges submitting affidavits to regulatory bodies claiming implementation of 7th Pay Commission norms, many institutions are failing to pay even minimum wages as per All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines.
Missing Benefits and Excessive Temporary Faculty
TSTCEA also pointed to critical gaps in employee benefits. The association revealed that gratuity benefits are not being implemented in several colleges, while mandatory group accident insurance policies for faculty are absent in nearly 90% of institutions.
Another significant concern raised is the excessive reliance on temporary faculty, which has led to increased workload and negatively impacted academic quality. Kumar stressed the need for enforcement of the Telangana Education Act, 1982 (Section 79) to ensure job security and implementation of the prescribed faculty cadre ratio of 1:2:6.
Upcoming JNTUH Inspections and Application Numbers
This plea from TSTCEA comes at a crucial time, as JNTUH has announced that it will commence fact-finding committee inspections for granting affiliations for the 2026-27 academic year starting from April 10. University officials confirmed that they have received 153 applications so far, with the deadline for submissions with a late fee set as April 12.
The association's demands underscore growing tensions in Telangana's technical education sector, with calls for greater oversight and compliance with established regulations to protect faculty rights and maintain educational standards.
