Anna University Coimbatore Hosts Sensor Interfacing Hackathon Under Naan Mudhalvan Scheme
The Anna University regional campus in Coimbatore became a hub of technological innovation on Thursday as it hosted a one-day hackathon focused on Sensor Interfacing Techniques. This event was conducted under the state government's Naan Mudhalvan scheme, designed to enhance practical skills among engineering students.
Widespread Participation from Multiple Districts
A total of 56 third-year engineering students from 13 colleges across Coimbatore, Erode, and Salem districts participated in this intensive competition. The hackathon was organized by The Tamil Nadu Smart and Advanced Manufacturing Center (TANSAM) in association with the Naan Mudhalvan initiative. The primary objective was to strengthen practical knowledge in embedded systems, IoT technologies, and smart applications, directly aligning with the evolving demands of Industry 4.0.
Innovative Projects and Technical Demonstrations
Students showcased their creativity and technical prowess by presenting 14 innovative project ideas that emphasized real-time applications of sensor interfacing and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Participants developed and demonstrated working prototypes using advanced platforms such as:
- ESP32 microcontrollers
- Raspberry Pi single-board computers
- A diverse range of sensors for various applications
These projects highlighted the students' technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills, addressing contemporary engineering challenges with practical solutions.
Expert Evaluation and Prize Distribution
A panel of industry and academic experts rigorously evaluated the projects based on multiple criteria, including:
- Innovation in concept and design
- Technical feasibility and implementation
- Scalability for industrial applications
- Overall presentation and demonstration quality
Three teams emerged as winners in the competition:
- First Prize: Awarded to students from Coimbatore
- Second Prize: Awarded to a team from Salem
- Third Prize: Awarded to students from Coimbatore
The winning teams received cash prizes and certificates during the concluding ceremony, recognizing their exceptional performance and innovative contributions.

Organizers emphasized that the hackathon served as an effective platform for students to gain hands-on experience and exposure to real-world engineering challenges.
