Punjabi University Hosts Successful International Seminar on Shaheed Udham Singh in Patiala
A significant two-day international seminar, organized by the Shaheed Udham Singh Chair of Punjabi University in collaboration with ICSSR-NWRC and Panjab University, Chandigarh, concluded successfully in Patiala on Wednesday. The event brought together scholars and researchers to delve into historical and contemporary aspects of the martyr's legacy.
Valedictory Session Presided Over by Vice-Chancellor
The valedictory session was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Jagdeep Singh, who delivered a presidential address emphasizing the core objectives of university chairs. Jagdeep Singh highlighted that such initiatives aim to encourage and promote research that brings neglected historical facts to the forefront. He stated that international seminars like this play a vital role in creating awareness among students and helping them reconnect with their cultural and historical roots.
Comprehensive Report and Research Presentations
Prof Mohammad Idris, the in-charge of the Shaheed Udham Singh Chair, delivered the welcome address and presented a comprehensive report on the two-day event. He informed the audience that a total of 20 research papers were presented during the seminar, covering various themes related to Shaheed Udham Singh's life and ideology. The first session of the second day commenced with Prof Ajita, Director of the IAS and Allied Services Training Centre, attending as the guest of honour, adding prestige to the proceedings.
Academic Discussions on Contemporary Relevance
The subsequent academic session was chaired by Prof B K Shivram, dean of studies and head of the history department at Himachal Pradesh University. Prof Shivram discussed in detail the contemporary relevance of Shaheed Udham Singh's ideology, exploring how his principles resonate in today's socio-political context. Various scholars and researchers also presented their papers, focusing on the seminar's central themes, which included:

- Impact of his ideology on modern movements
- Educational and cultural aspects of his legacy
- Research methodologies in studying historical figures
