Odisha Accelerates Post-Graduate Academic Session for 2026-27
In a significant move to streamline higher education, the Odisha government has announced that the 2026-27 academic session for post-graduate (PG) courses will commence in July this year, instead of the traditional end-August start. The higher education department issued a notification on Thursday, setting a target to initiate PG classes across all universities and colleges in the state by July 10.
Benefits of the Early Start
Officials emphasized that this adjustment is designed to facilitate the timely completion of the academic curriculum, conduct of examinations, and declaration of results. By advancing the session, students will benefit from a more efficient academic calendar, reducing delays and enhancing overall educational outcomes. This proactive approach aims to align with national standards and improve the learning experience for postgraduate scholars.
Admission Process Through CPET
Admission to various PG courses will be managed through the Common Post-Graduate Entrance Test (CPET). The common application forms (CAFs) will be accessible on the website of the Students Academic Management System starting Friday. Students have until March 15 to submit their CAFs, ensuring ample time for preparation and application.
Entrance Test Schedule and Eligibility
The State Selection Board will conduct subject-wise entrance tests from April 27 to May 10. Admissions into PG courses will be based solely on marks obtained in the CPET. To be eligible for the CPET, candidates must have cleared graduation or an equivalent examination from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Phase-1 Admission and Compliance Requirements
The department has outlined that the phase-1 PG admission process will commence early. However, students admitted under this phase must submit their graduation or equivalent certificates to the concerned institution within two months of admission. Failure to do so, or if the final marks do not meet the eligibility criteria, will result in the cancellation of their admission. This measure ensures academic integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
