Manipal Global SDG Convergence 2026 Commences at MAHE, Fostering International Dialogue on Sustainability
The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, officially launched the Manipal Global SDG Convergence 2026 (MAGSCON 2026) today. This significant three-day international conference, held at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium in KMC, Manipal, Karnataka, is dedicated to accelerating progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Scheduled from March 24 to 26, 2026, the event aims to strengthen collaborative efforts toward sustainable development by leveraging higher education and innovation as key drivers.
Leadership Emphasizes Commitment to Global Challenges
During the inauguration, Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, highlighted the institution's steadfast dedication to fostering responsible leadership and sustainable development. He stated, "MAGSCON 2026 reflects MAHE’s enduring commitment to fostering responsible leadership and sustainable development. As institutions of higher learning, we must go beyond knowledge dissemination to actively contribute to solutions that address global challenges and improve the quality of life." This sentiment was echoed by Dr Line Joranger from the University of Southeastern Norway, who delivered a special address emphasizing the necessity of global collaboration. She remarked, "Global challenges demand global collaboration. Platforms like MAGSCON 2026 enable meaningful exchange of ideas and partnerships across borders, empowering institutions to work collectively towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals."
Presiding over the ceremony, Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of MAHE, underscored the pivotal role universities play in shaping a sustainable future. He asserted, "At MAHE, we believe universities play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future. MAGSCON 2026 brings together diverse stakeholders to collaborate, innovate and drive impactful change aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals." The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Dr Satish Kumar, President and Executive Director of the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), and Dr Ananya Mukherjee, Vice Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR, among others.

MAGSCON 2026 has been conceptualized as a global platform that unites universities, research institutions, industry partners, NGOs, policymakers, and students to collectively advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The conference features a rich program with:

Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu; Dr. Atul Khosla, Vice Chancellor of Shoolini University; Prof. Puttaswamy, Director (Technical) of the Department of Ecology, Environment and Forests, Government of Karnataka; and Mr. Vik Singh, Consul (Commercial), Trade and Investment Commissioner for Austrade in South Asia.
