KVAFSU Gets 10th Rank in IIRF 2026 National Ranking

Bidar: Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar has achieved the 10th rank at the national level among Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences Universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) ranking 2026. This recognition places KVAFSU among the leading institutions for veterinary, animal and fisheries sciences education, research and extension, bringing pride to Karnataka.

About the IIRF Ranking

The IIRF is an independent ranking system that evaluated over 5,000 institutions across India. Universities were assessed on research performance, faculty quality, industry collaboration and graduate outcomes for specialised professional programmes.

University's Infrastructure and Programmes

KVAFSU Vice Chancellor KC Veeranna stated that the university has nine colleges across Karnataka, with a new college at Puttur expected to commence operations soon. Veterinary colleges are functioning at Bengaluru, Bidar, Shivamogga, Hassan, Gadag and Athani. Colleges of Dairy Science are located at Bengaluru and Mahagaon Cross, Kalaburagi, while the college of fisheries science operates in Mangaluru. To cater to mid-level management needs in animal husbandry and develop skilled human resources for the livestock sector, the university offers diploma courses in animal husbandry through five polytechnic colleges in Konehalli (Tumakuru district), Shiggaon (Haveri district), Doranahalli (Yadgir district), Koravangala (Hassan district) and Bargi (Chamarajanagar district).

The university also administers 11 research centres, one Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals, Bengaluru.

Significance of the Ranking

Veeranna said the national recognition from IIRF testifies to the university's sustained excellence in veterinary, animal and fisheries education, quality research, extension services, innovation, student development and institutional governance. He emphasised that the university consistently works to improve teaching quality, promote innovative research, strengthen extension outreach to farmers, and enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

The national ranking serves as recognition of past accomplishments and motivation for future endeavours, according to Veeranna.
