Kerala's Kesari Govt College Inaugurated After Long Struggle

Kerala's Kesari Govt Arts & Science College Formally Inaugurated, Marking a New Era in Higher Education

In a significant development for the educational landscape of Kerala, the newly established Kesari Govt Arts & Science College in North Paravur was formally inaugurated on Wednesday. This event brings to a close a long-standing and persistent demand from the local community for a robust higher education institution in the region, addressing decades of uncertainty and struggle.

High-Profile Inauguration Ceremony Attended by Key Dignitaries

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, underscoring the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure. The event saw the presence of a distinguished gathering, including Opposition Leader V D Satheesan and Higher Education Minister R Bindu. Numerous public representatives and prominent cultural figures from the region also attended, highlighting the widespread support and importance of this institution to the local populace.

A Turbulent History: From Establishment to Government Takeover

The college's journey has been marked by considerable challenges. Originally established in 1977 under the Kesari Balakrishna Pillai Memorial Trust, it commenced operations in 1978, offering pre-degree and undergraduate courses. However, due to persistently low student enrolment, the institution was forced to shut down in 1996. A revival attempt in 2010, with affiliation from MG University, was short-lived as poor infrastructure led to the loss of affiliation in 2019. It was at this critical juncture, responding to strong public demand, that the Kerala government decided to intervene and take over the college, ensuring its survival and future development.

Legacy and Modern Transformation: Serving Over 44,000 Students

Over its operational decades, Kesari College has played a pivotal role in the educational advancement of the region, with more than 44,000 students pursuing higher education through its programs. The institution is spread across approximately 160 cents of land and has now been transformed to offer modern, job-oriented undergraduate programs designed to meet contemporary industry demands.

Current academic offerings include:

  • BSc Cyber Forensic (Hons.)
  • BA Journalism and Mass Communication (Hons.)
  • BCom Finance and Taxation (Hons.)

Currently, around 80 students are enrolled across these programs. Notably, the college has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first government college in Kerala to introduce a BSc program in Cyber Forensic, positioning it at the forefront of specialized education in the state.

This inauguration not only revitalizes a historic institution but also promises to bolster educational opportunities and skill development in North Paravur, contributing to Kerala's broader goals in higher education and employment readiness.
