JSW Foundation and IEEE India Philanthropy Transform Mangaluru School with Advanced STEM Lab and Solar UPS
A groundbreaking educational initiative is set to launch in Mangaluru, as a state-of-the-art STEM Laboratory and solar-powered Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system will be inaugurated at the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Government Model Higher Primary School in Panjimogaru on April 10. This transformative project is funded by the JSW Foundation and meticulously designed and implemented by IEEE India Philanthropy, marking a significant leap forward in science education for the region.
Revolutionizing Classroom Learning with Hands-On Experience
School Headmistress Vani emphasized that this initiative fundamentally shifts the traditional classroom paradigm by replacing conventional textbooks with immersive, hands-on learning experiences. "This facility allows our students to truly experience science by touching and seeing concepts in action," the school administration shared, expressing profound gratitude to JSW Foundation and IEEE for empowering the next generation of innovators. The bilingual institution, which currently enrolls 350 students from LKG to Class 7 and employs nine teachers including the Headmistress and Physical Training Teacher, already features a smart class, but the new laboratory will specifically enhance education for students in Classes 6 and 7.
Comprehensive Interactive Models Across Scientific Disciplines
The newly established STEM Lab boasts a wide array of interactive models designed to engage young minds across multiple scientific fields:
- Physical Sciences: Modules covering magnetism, light, sound, and simple machines to demonstrate fundamental physics principles.
- Biology & Chemistry: Detailed anatomical models of the heart and brain, alongside comprehensive chemistry learning kits for practical experimentation.
- Electronics: Hands-on demonstrations of circuits, motors, and wave motion to foster understanding of electrical engineering concepts.
Solar-Powered Backup Ensures Uninterrupted Learning
To guarantee that educational activities proceed without disruption, the project incorporates a solar-powered backup system currently supporting three classrooms. This innovative solution provides uninterrupted power regardless of grid stability, ensuring that learning never stops due to electricity outages. The project also includes provisions for continuous support to optimize the utilization of all installed facilities, with JSW Foundation assuring teacher training to maximize the lab's educational impact.
Future Expansion and Broader Educational Impact
Headmistress Vani revealed that the school is slated for an upgrade to a Karnataka Public School, where the laboratory will extend its benefits to high school students as well. The collaboration with JSW Foundation began when Vani approached the organization for tracksuits for students, which were promptly provided. Recognizing the school's additional need for a science laboratory, JSW Foundation expanded its support to facilitate this advanced learning environment. "We are committed to nurturing young innovators through practical science education," the foundation noted, highlighting their dedication to sustainable educational development.
This initiative not only enhances immediate learning opportunities but also sets a precedent for integrating renewable energy solutions with educational infrastructure, promising a brighter future for students in Mangaluru and beyond.
