IIM Mumbai Unveils Groundbreaking 4-Year Bachelor's Programme in Digital Science and Business Management

In a significant move to bridge the gap between technology and business education, the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) has announced the launch of its first-ever 4-year bachelor's degree programme in Digital Science and Business Management. This innovative programme is set to commence this year, developed in collaboration with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and various industry partners.

Programme Details and Vision

The announcement was made by IIM Mumbai Director Prof Manoj Tiwari during the institute's convocation ceremony for its inaugural MBA batch on Saturday. Prof Tiwari emphasized that this programme is designed to integrate cutting-edge technologies with core management principles, creating a unique educational offering.

"This programme brings together the most transformative technologies of recent times - Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, the Internet of Things, and Robotics, seamlessly integrated with the core pillars of management: operations, marketing, finance, and manufacturing," he stated at the ceremony.

The programme, which has 70 seats available, aims to produce future-ready professionals capable of operating at the intersection of technology and business leadership. It is specifically tailored to meet the evolving demands of digitally driven industries, ensuring graduates are equipped with both technical expertise and managerial acumen.

Collaborative Structure and Financial Aspects

The degree programme will be delivered through a collaborative framework where IIT Bombay and industry partners will handle the technology components, while IIM Mumbai will focus on the business management aspects. Prof Tiwari highlighted that the programme comes with a guarantee of 100 per cent placement, underscoring the institute's confidence in its relevance and quality.

In terms of cost, the programme is priced at approximately Rs 6-7 lakh per year, making it a significant investment in higher education. The selection process for admission will be conducted through the Joint Entrance Examinations - Main (JEE-Main), followed by a personal interview, as confirmed by Prof Tiwari.

Unique Academic Pathways and Future Plans

A distinctive feature of this programme is the option provided to third-year students to pursue a Master's in Business Administration (MBA). This accelerated pathway allows students to complete their MBA in just one year immediately after the four-year bachelor's programme, offering a streamlined route to advanced qualifications.

Looking ahead, IIM Mumbai plans to introduce more bachelor's programmes, but this expansion is contingent on infrastructure upgrades. Prof Tiwari explained, "Currently we have a hostel capacity of 1,200 students. After we upgrade our infrastructure that can accommodate more students, we will roll out more bachelor's programmes."

Convocation Highlights and Graduation Statistics

The announcement coincided with IIM Mumbai's convocation ceremony, where a total of 505 students graduated. This milestone follows the institute's formal recognition from NITIE (National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering) in 2026. The graduating cohort included:

  • 300 students from the General MBA course
  • 177 students from MBA - Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • 28 students from MBA - Sustainability Management

Additionally, the ceremony celebrated the graduation of 39 students from the first batch of the One Year Post Graduate Programme for Executives on Logistics and Operations Excellence through Digitization, 26 students from the One Year Post Graduate Programme for Executives, and 6 doctoral degree recipients.

This new bachelor's programme represents a strategic shift in IIM Mumbai's educational offerings, positioning it at the forefront of interdisciplinary education that combines technological innovation with business leadership. By partnering with IIT Bombay and industry leaders, the institute aims to set a new standard for management education in the digital age, preparing students for the complex challenges of modern industries.
