IIM Lucknow Introduces Three New AI Programs, Undergraduate Course to Admit via JEE Advanced

In a significant move to bolster India's capabilities in artificial intelligence, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan officially launched a series of three new academic programs focused on AI at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave 2026, an event that the institute hailed as a historic milestone in democratizing AI education and establishing India as a frontrunner in responsible and ethical artificial intelligence development.

Minister Pradhan Emphasizes Transformative Potential of AI for National Growth

Addressing attendees at the conclave, Minister Pradhan underscored the profound transformative potential that artificial intelligence holds for driving national development. He articulated a clear vision, stating, "We aim to make India a global leader in ethical AI." Pradhan further elaborated that business schools must take the lead in seamlessly integrating AI into management practices, fostering innovation, and solving real-world challenges. He emphasized that these newly introduced programs are designed to prepare students comprehensively for an AI-driven future while ensuring that technological advancements remain firmly aligned with core human values and societal needs.

Highlighting India's unique demographic advantage, the minister pointed out that the country's vast and dynamic young talent pool positions it exceptionally well to develop indigenous AI solutions. "Aspirational India must leverage AI not only for economic growth but also for inclusive and socially meaningful progress," he noted. Pradhan stressed the critical importance of utilizing AI to enhance outcomes in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and public services through the responsible adoption of best practices and innovative delivery models. He encouraged educational institutions to actively nurture homegrown solutions, asserting that such efforts would enable India to better address national priorities while simultaneously making valuable contributions to global innovation ecosystems.

IIM Lucknow Director Details Program Structure and Objectives

IIM Lucknow director, Professor MP Gupta, described the newly launched programs as a strategic fusion of business acumen and technological depth. He explained that the "thoughtfully designed modular curriculum" will empower students to effectively translate cutting-edge technological advances into commercially viable and sustainable business models. According to Gupta, this initiative is aligned with India's long-term vision for Viksit Bharat@2047, aiming to develop robust AI capabilities that are deeply rooted in practical industry requirements and broader societal relevance.

The institute has announced a phased rollout of three major academic programs, each tailored to meet evolving educational and professional demands:

  • BS in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics (4 years): This undergraduate program is set to launch in the 2026–27 academic year. Admission will be based on JEE Advanced scores, marking a significant integration of engineering entrance criteria into management education.
  • Tech MBA (2 years): A specialized master's program scheduled for launch in the 2027–28 academic session, focusing on advanced AI applications in business.
  • Integrated BS + Tech MBA (5 years): This comprehensive pathway offers eligible BS students an opportunity to earn both a bachelor's degree and a Tech MBA within a condensed five-year timeframe, providing an accelerated route to expertise.

Programs Aimed at Fostering Excellence, National Impact, and Global Leadership

IIM Lucknow has articulated that these programs are strategically designed to advance three key overarching goals: individual academic and professional excellence, substantial national impact, and positioning India for global leadership in AI. By equipping students with essential skills in AI-driven decision-making, digital leadership, and innovation, the institute aims to directly support critical national initiatives such as Digital India and the IndiaAI Mission. This educational push is envisioned to cultivate a new generation of leaders capable of navigating and shaping the rapidly evolving technological landscape, thereby contributing to India's ascent as a powerhouse in ethical and innovative artificial intelligence.
