IIIT Allahabad Announces New MTech Program in Quantum Information & Technologies

The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A), has officially announced the launch of a groundbreaking two-year Master of Technology (MTech) program in Quantum Information & Technologies (QIT). The program is scheduled to commence from July 2026, marking a significant advancement in India's quantum education landscape.

Program Details and Structure

Prof Mukul Sharad Sutaone, Director of IIIT-A, revealed the details during the inaugural session of the four-day workshop on Quantum Information and Technology (FQIT) at the institute's Jhalwa campus in Prayagraj. The MTech program will span four semesters and is meticulously designed as a multidisciplinary initiative to cultivate skilled professionals for the rapidly evolving quantum ecosystem.

Admissions and Seats

The program will offer a total of 25 seats. Admissions will be conducted through the centralized counselling process for M Tech, M Arch, and M Plan admissions (CCMT), ensuring a streamlined and transparent selection procedure for aspiring candidates.

Collaborations and Academic Excellence

To ensure high-quality training and comprehensive exposure for students, the program will leverage academic and research collaborations with premier institutions. These include the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Pune, the Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI) in Prayagraj, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune.

Prof Sutaone emphasized that these partnerships are crucial for providing students with cutting-edge knowledge and practical experience in quantum technologies, preparing them for future challenges and opportunities in this field.

Workshop Inauguration

The FQIT workshop was inaugurated by Prof Ujjwal Sen from HRI, Prayagraj, highlighting the collaborative spirit and academic rigor that will underpin the new MTech program. This initiative positions IIIT-A as a key player in advancing quantum education and research in India, contributing to the nation's technological prowess.
