Goa Government Moves Forward with Common Campus Project at University

The state government of Goa is actively progressing with the appointment of a consultant for a new common campus planned at Goa University. This initiative aims to relocate six government colleges to a unified location on the university's premises in Taleigao.

Land Transfer and Infrastructure Planning Approved

Recently, the executive council of Goa University granted approval for the transfer of 1.3 lakh square meters of land to the directorate of higher education. This land will be utilized for shifting the colleges, which currently operate from aged buildings in Panaji and Porvorim.

The colleges involved in this relocation include the Goa College of Pharmacy, Goa College of Fine Art, Goa College of Architecture, Goa College of Home Science, Goa College of Music, and Goa College of Education. Officials have noted that these institutions face limitations for expansion in their existing premises, making the move to the common campus desirable.

Survey Completion and Consultant Appointment in Progress

An official stated that the survey and physical inspection of the allotted land have been completed. The process for appointing a consultant for the project is currently underway. Detailed infrastructure requirements from each college have been compiled and forwarded to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for necessary planning and action.

Planning and assessment of common facilities for the campus are being worked out, with additional land expected to be identified soon for the project. In the meantime, the first phase is being planned using the available land.

Current Operations and Future Prospects

While the colleges continue to function from their old buildings, with regular repair works being carried out, the shift to the common campus is seen as a crucial step for modernization and expansion. This move is expected to enhance educational infrastructure and provide better facilities for students and faculty in Goa's higher education sector.
