Goa College Admissions: Merit List Release on April 22, Counselling Begins April 23

Panaji: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) in Goa has announced that the first merit list for degree college admissions will be officially released on April 22. This follows the conclusion of the initial registration round, which saw a substantial turnout of applicants seeking undergraduate seats across the state.

Counselling and Admission Process Timeline

Officials have confirmed that the counselling and admission procedures will commence from Thursday, April 23. This structured timeline aims to streamline the allocation of seats and ensure a smooth transition for students into the new academic year.

During the first registration phase, a total of 12,533 applicants successfully registered through the Samarth e-governance portal. This digital platform has facilitated a transparent and efficient application process, reflecting the state's commitment to modernizing educational administration.

Comprehensive Course Coverage in Merit Lists

DHE official Mahadev Gawas elaborated on the scope of the merit lists, stating, "The merit lists that will be put out after the counselling concludes cover a wide range of courses, including BA, BCom, BSc, BSc (biotechnology), BSc (sports science), BSc (agriculture), BBA, BCA, and all self-financed courses."

This inclusive approach ensures that students across diverse academic interests are accommodated, from traditional arts and sciences to specialized and professional programmes.

Mandatory Steps for Shortlisted Candidates

Gawas emphasized that candidates who are shortlisted must adhere to specific requirements to secure their admission:

  • Report to the allotted college with original documents for verification.
  • Complete the necessary verification process promptly.
  • Pay the prescribed fees to confirm admission.

These steps are crucial to finalizing enrollment and avoiding any disruptions in the admission timeline.

Flexible Options and Student-Friendly Measures

In a significant student-friendly initiative, the directorate has introduced flexibility in the admission process. "Candidates are permitted to switch either their college or programme, subject to availability and within the stipulated admission schedule," Gawas noted.

This provision allows students to adjust their choices based on preferences and seat availability, enhancing their overall satisfaction with the admission outcome.

Interim Seats for Engineering and Medical Aspirants

Recognizing the overlapping timelines of various entrance exams, the DHE has implemented a supportive measure for students pursuing competitive fields. "Students who are simultaneously aspiring for engineering or medical programmes, whose entrance results or counselling processes are still pending, have been encouraged to secure an undergraduate seat in the interim," Gawas explained.

This strategy ensures that these candidates have a backup option while awaiting results from other streams, reducing anxiety and providing a safety net.

Refund Policy for Withdrawals

To further assist students, the directorate has established a clear refund policy. Gawas added, "Students will be eligible for a full refund if they withdraw admission before the final date for the 2026-27 academic year as notified by the directorate."

This policy underscores the DHE's commitment to fairness and financial consideration for students who may need to alter their plans due to changing circumstances or successful admissions elsewhere.

The upcoming release of the merit list and the commencement of counselling mark critical phases in Goa's higher education calendar, with the DHE poised to manage the process efficiently to benefit thousands of aspiring undergraduates across the state.
