Doon Medical College Ragging Scandal: 24 Students Investigated

Doon Medical College Rocked by Serious Ragging Allegations

Government Doon Medical College in Dehradun finds itself at the center of a disturbing controversy. Senior MBBS students stand accused of physically assaulting their juniors in a clear case of ragging. The incident has sent shockwaves through the prestigious institution located in Patel Nagar.

Student Files Formal Complaint Detailing Assault

A student from the 2025 batch took brave action by submitting a written complaint on January 13, 2026. He described being attacked with a belt by senior students just outside the college campus. "I am scared of retribution, and this left me shaken," the student stated in his formal complaint, as reported by Times of India.

The complainant specifically named two seniors from the 2023 and 2024 batches. He alleged they brutally assaulted him and later tried to intimidate him inside the hostel premises. The student reported living in constant fear and mental distress following the traumatic event.

College Launches Immediate Investigation

The complaint prompted immediate action from the college's Anti-Ragging Committee. Their investigation has revealed the involvement of 24 students in the incident. College authorities have already imposed fines on those found guilty of indiscipline as an initial disciplinary measure.

Medical College Principal Geeta Jain emphasized the seriousness with which the institution treats such matters. "The Anti-Ragging Committee is conducting a detailed inquiry into the incident," she stated. "We are treating this complaint with zero tolerance."

Strict Consequences Await Guilty Parties

The college administration has made its position crystal clear. If the allegations prove true during the ongoing investigation, the accused students face severe consequences. Suspension from the college represents just one of the strict actions being considered.

Principal Jain confirmed that the Discipline Committee has already recorded statements from multiple students. She reiterated that indiscipline of any kind will not be tolerated within the college community.

Context of Wider Concerns in Uttarakhand

This ragging scandal emerges against a backdrop of concerning incidents in Uttarakhand's capital. A separate case involving journalist Pankaj Mishra's tragic death has captured public attention. According to an FIR filed by the journalist's brother, miscreants broke into Mishra's residence in Doon Vihar, Jakhan on December 15.

The assailants violently assaulted the journalist with apparent intent to kill. Police have registered the case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 103, 304, 333, and 352.

The Doon Medical College administration now faces the challenging task of addressing this ragging scandal thoroughly while maintaining the institution's reputation. Students and parents alike await the outcome of the investigation with great concern.
