Delhi L-G Sandhu urges youth to embrace future-ready skills

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday inaugurated the 17th postgraduate programme batch at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Rohtak, as the chief guest. He also visited Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) and Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in the city.

Interactive Sessions on Higher Education and Skill Development

At IIM Rohtak, Sandhu engaged with students and faculty, emphasising that modern management extends beyond efficiency and optimisation. He stressed the importance of cultivating sound judgment to navigate global complexities, technological disruptions, and evolving societal responsibilities. Leadership, he said, stems from clarity of thought, adaptability, integrity, and the ability to inspire trust, not merely from authority.

He encouraged students to think beyond conventional silos and leverage education, innovation, and enterprise to contribute to India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Discussions at MDU on Technology and Research

At MDU, Sandhu participated in an interactive session with Vice-Chancellor Prof Milap Punia and other senior academicians. The discussions focused on the transformative impact of emerging technologies and the integration of these technologies into problem-solving across sectors. Sandhu underscored the need to equip youth with advanced technological knowledge, innovation-driven thinking, and future-ready skills.

“As technology continues to reshape the global landscape, our educational institutions must serve as catalysts for excellence, research, and innovation, empowering the next generation to lead with confidence and contribute meaningfully to nation-building,” he said. He added that the future identity of Indian universities would be defined by global networking and meaningful research.

Addressing Ageing Population and Healthcare Challenges

Referring to the country’s ageing population, Sandhu noted that assisted healthcare for the elderly would emerge as a major challenge. He called for sustained research to develop practical solutions.

Describing MDU as an institution with immense potential, he highlighted its location in the National Capital Region as a strategic advantage for interdisciplinary research and innovation. He urged university authorities to prioritise areas such as biosciences, green energy, environmental conservation, pollution control, healthcare, and agriculture.

Visit to Bangla Sahib Gurdwara

Sandhu also visited Bangla Sahib Gurdwara at Mata Darwaja in Rohtak to pay obeisance, underscoring his engagement with the local community during his trip.
