Delhi Government Unveils Major ITI Modernization Initiative

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a comprehensive initiative to significantly strengthen technical and vocational education across the capital's Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). According to the Chief Minister's Office, this ambitious skill development program will establish new state-of-the-art laboratories in four key ITIs while modernizing existing facilities to ensure training aligns perfectly with current industry standards and requirements.

Power Electronics Excellence Center at ITI Jahangirpuri

A dedicated power electronics laboratory will be established at ITI Jahangirpuri, offering advanced training in power electronics, electrical control systems, industrial automation, and renewable energy technologies. The facility will be equipped with modern systems including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) kits, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) trainers, transformer trainers, motor control panels, relay and protection systems, solar PV training kits, and smart energy monitoring systems.

The laboratory will provide trainees with hands-on experience in operating, diagnosing faults, and maintaining modern electrical and power electronics systems, with expectations that it will evolve into a center of excellence in power engineering. Approximately 480 trainees from trades including electrician, electronics mechanic, mechanic auto electrical and electronics (MAEE), solar technician, fitter, mechanic refrigeration and air conditioning (MRAC), and mechanic motor vehicle (MMV) will benefit from this upgraded facility.

Advanced Welding Hub at ITI Jail Road

At ITI Jail Road in Hari Nagar, the existing welder laboratory will undergo comprehensive modernization. The upgraded facility will feature advanced welding machines, simulation-based training systems, and contemporary fabrication tools to provide trainees with real-world exposure to industrial welding processes.

The enhanced laboratory will include arc welding, MIG/TIG welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, welding simulators, and metal fabrication workstations, helping trainees build precision, strengthen safety awareness, and develop industry-relevant fabrication skills. This initiative is expected to expand apprenticeship and employment opportunities while transforming the facility into an advanced welding training hub aligned with modern manufacturing standards, benefiting approximately 200 trainees from trades such as welder, fitter, turner, mechanic motor vehicle, and sheet metal worker.

Cutting-Edge Automotive Training at ITI Arab Ki Sarai

Automotive laboratories at ITI Arab Ki Sarai in Nizamuddin will receive significant technological upgrades, with a key highlight being the introduction of high-end Virtual Reality (VR) simulators for training in driving, welding, and painting. These simulators will allow trainees to learn complex skills in a safe, controlled, and highly realistic environment.

Specialized modules on advanced vehicle systems such as Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) and airbags will also be introduced, enabling trainees to develop practical expertise in diagnosing and repairing modern electronic automotive systems. This upgrade is expected to transform the institute into a state-of-the-art center of excellence, significantly enhancing employability for approximately 208 trainees from the mechanic auto body painting (MABP) and mechanic auto body repair (MABR) trades.

Electric Vehicle Lab at HJB ITI Mayur Vihar

Further strengthening Delhi's green mobility ecosystem, an Electric Vehicle (EV) Laboratory will be established at HJB ITI in Mayur Vihar. This facility will focus on next-generation automotive technologies including battery management systems (BMS), electric motors, EV charging infrastructure, and power electronics diagnostics.

Trainees will gain hands-on experience in the assembly, testing, diagnosis, and repair of electric vehicles, equipping them with skills highly relevant to the rapidly evolving clean mobility sector. Approximately 184 trainees from trades such as electronics mechanic, mechatronics technician, and related disciplines will benefit from this specialized training facility.

Building a Skilled, Industry-Ready Workforce

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step toward building a skilled, industry-ready workforce for Delhi. "These modern laboratories will not only enhance technical capabilities but also give trainees exposure to real-world industrial practices, opening up opportunities for both employment and self-employment," she stated.

The Chief Minister added that this move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Skill India and a technologically empowered youth, contributing to economic growth and self-reliance. ITI Jahangirpuri, located in northwest Delhi, functions under the Directorate of Training and Technical Education (DTTE) and offers training in electrical, electronics, and mechanical trades, with its proximity to industrial clusters making it particularly well-suited for practical learning experiences.
