Devi Ahilya University Unveils Gen Z Post Office with Lounge, Games, and Coffee on Campus

In a move to bridge the gap between traditional government services and contemporary student lifestyles, the Department of Posts has inaugurated a Gen Z post office on the Takshashila campus of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore. This innovative facility, located on Khandwa Road, is designed to attract young users by offering a relaxed, cafe-like environment rather than a conventional postal office setting.

Transforming Postal Services for the Student Community

The newly renovated post office, which has been operational since 2012 in a single room, has undergone a complete redesign to cater specifically to the needs and interests of the student population. Officials aim to introduce students to modern postal and digital services in a comfortable space where they can spend time between classes.

Key features of the Gen Z post office include:

  • Colorful wall décor and casual lounge-style seating areas
  • Bookshelves stocked with reading materials in both Hindi and English
  • Indoor games such as chess and ludo for recreational activities
  • A coffee machine and refreshment corner to enhance the informal atmosphere
  • Access to newspapers and magazines alongside traditional postal services

Bridging Generational Gaps in Communication

Postal department officials believe this initiative will help young people understand the continued relevance of postal services even in an era dominated by online communication and artificial intelligence. Beyond handling regular mail and parcel bookings, the center will educate students about digital facilities offered by the postal department.

"The concept aims to connect the country's young generation with postal services in a contemporary format," explained Shivanshu Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices for the Indore city division. "By creating a student-friendly environment with amenities like drinking water, tea and coffee dispensers, and casual seating, we hope to make postal services more accessible and appealing to youth."

Inauguration and Expansion of the Concept

The renovated facility was officially inaugurated by Preeti Agrawal, Postmaster General of the Indore region, in the presence of postal department officials and university administration representatives. During the inaugural program, a special commemorative cover was released to mark the victory of the Indian cricket team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

This marks the second implementation of such a concept in the district, following the successful launch of a similar next-generation post office at the Indian Institute of Management, Indore last year. With this expansion to DAVV campus, officials hope more young people will rediscover and utilize postal services in a modern, engaging environment that aligns with their lifestyle preferences.
