A delegation from Cape Breton University (CBU) has signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Indian academic institutions as part of a multi-city outreach aimed at strengthening higher education partnerships. The visit, led by CBU President and Vice-Chancellor David C. Dingwall, took place between April 27 and May 2 across New Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.
In an official statement, the university highlighted the strategic importance of India. "India is fast emerging as a global powerhouse of talent and innovation, making it a strategic partner in shaping the next phase of higher education," Dingwall said. "This visit reflects our intent to build high-impact, future-focused collaborations that go beyond traditional academic exchange."
Delhi Engagements and Agreements
During the delegation's visit to the national capital, Dingwall discussed collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, community development, and startup ecosystems, according to a statement cited by news agency PTI. The discussions focused on expanding academic ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.
In Delhi, the university signed a five-year MoU with BML Munjal University’s School of Engineering and Technology. This agreement will facilitate student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and co-creation of academic conferences. A second agreement was signed with the National Education Forum, which will act as CBU’s official convening partner in India to support engagement with governments and institutions.
Partnerships in Gujarat
The delegation also formalised a partnership with Lok Jagruti Kendra University. Additionally, they held discussions with Parul University and Navrachana University to expand collaborations and build a regional academic network focused on student mobility and jointly developed programmes.
Focus on Hybrid Learning Models
Across engagements, hybrid learning models emerged as a key focus. These would allow Indian students to complete part of their coursework in India before moving to the university’s campus in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This approach aims to enhance accessibility and provide a seamless transition for international students.
The MoUs represent a significant step in CBU's strategy to deepen ties with Indian institutions, leveraging India's growing reputation as a hub for talent and innovation. The collaborations are expected to foster academic excellence, research innovation, and cultural exchange between Canada and India.
