Bihar Universities Ramp Up Undergraduate Admissions Following Class XII Results

With the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) releasing Class XII results on Monday, higher education institutions across Bihar have swiftly initiated the admission process for undergraduate courses for the academic session 2026-27. Several universities have already announced their admission schedules, while others are expected to follow shortly, aiming to streamline the enrollment of new students.

Patna and Patliputra Universities Lead with Online Admissions

Patna University (PU) and Patliputra University (PPU) are set to open online applications for four-year degree programs in arts, science, and commerce streams in the first week of April. This year, both universities will conduct admissions exclusively through the Samarth e-governance portal, marking a significant shift towards digital processes.

Yogendra Kumar Verma, the dean of students’ welfare at PU, emphasized that the university is adhering to government directives issued last year by moving all administrative work online via the e-Samarth portal. He stated, "All admissions for the 2026-27 session will be formalized through this portal to ensure efficiency and transparency." University authorities are in constant communication with portal managers to expedite the admission process, with the goal of completing undergraduate admissions, including reservation compliance, by the end of June. Classes for newly admitted students are scheduled to commence in the first week of July.

Similarly, Abu Bakar Rizwi, registrar of PPU, confirmed that undergraduate admissions across all affiliated colleges will begin in early April using the e-Samarth portal. He expressed optimism about the portal's implementation, highlighting its benefits for students in terms of accessibility and convenience.

Admission Criteria and CUET-UG Participation in Bihar

In most state universities, admission to general undergraduate courses is based solely on marks obtained in Class XII examinations from various boards. Historically, PU conducted a centralized entrance test for its colleges, but this practice was discontinued after the Covid-19 pandemic. However, some universities continue to hold entrance tests for self-financing or vocational courses to ensure specialized selection.

A notable development is the limited participation in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG), administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Out of Bihar's 23 universities, which include two central, 14 state, and seven private institutions, only five have volunteered to adopt CUET-UG for undergraduate admissions. This indicates a preference for traditional merit-based systems over standardized testing in the region.

The accelerated admission drive reflects Bihar's commitment to enhancing higher education accessibility and leveraging technology for smoother academic transitions. As universities embrace digital platforms like Samarth, students can expect a more streamlined and efficient enrollment experience for the upcoming academic year.
