Assam Chief Minister Inaugurates Modern Academic Block at Women's University
In a significant development for women's higher education in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially inaugurated a cutting-edge academic block at the Assam Women's University (AWU) in Jorhat on Wednesday. The newly constructed facility, built at a cost of Rs 28.5 crore, is poised to significantly improve the learning environment for more than 1,200 students currently enrolled at the institution.

Addressing a gathering at the university's Teok-Koliapani campus, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the state government's unwavering dedication to fostering women-led development. "The inauguration of this new academic block represents another crucial step forward in empowering our 'Nari Shakti' (women power)," the CM declared. "The daughters of Assam will now have access to quality higher education within a highly conducive and modern environment."
Sarma expressed confidence that the new infrastructure would attract an increased number of students and contribute substantially to the holistic development of women across the state. "This advanced facility will enable our young women to dream bigger and achieve greater heights in their academic and professional pursuits," he added during his speech.

The newly inaugurated academic complex boasts an array of modern amenities designed to enhance the educational experience:

Established by the state legislature in 2013, Assam Women's University holds the distinguished title of being the first state-run women's university in the entire northeastern region of India. The institution began functioning in September 2014 from its expansive 73-acre campus located in Rowriah, Jorhat.

Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Assam Women's University currently operates 17 academic departments offering an impressive 46 degree programs at various levels:
