AKTU Greenlights Major Investment for Advanced Technology Hubs
In a landmark decision aimed at revolutionizing technical education in Uttar Pradesh, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has approved a substantial budget allocation of Rs 1,1016.63 crore. This funding is dedicated to the establishment of four state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence on its campus, as confirmed during the executive council meeting held on Thursday.
Strategic Focus on Emerging Technologies
The executive council meeting, which also ratified proposals for admissions to engineering and other courses through UPTAC counselling based on JEE Main, CUET, and NATA ranks, centered on strengthening advanced technology education, research, and skill development. According to AKTU Vice-Chancellor Prof JP Pandey, the approval for these centres is a strategic move to make cutting-edge technologies accessible to youth across the state.
The four major Centres of Excellence include:
- AI Centre of Excellence: Designed to foster innovation, research, faculty training, and AI-based startups, this centre will spearhead projects in artificial intelligence.
- Apple Centre of Excellence: Featuring an Apple computer-based Mac Lab, it will train students in app development, machine learning, and creative computing.
- Space Technology Centre of Excellence: Focused on education, research, and skill development in space science, satellite systems, rocketry, and remote sensing.
- Cyber Forensic Investigation Technology Centre: Aimed at enhancing capabilities in cybersecurity and digital forensics.
Enhancing Research and Innovation Infrastructure
Prof Pandey emphasized that the AI Centre of Excellence will not only promote academic research but also support entrepreneurial ventures in the AI domain. Similarly, the Apple Centre of Excellence is expected to equip students with hands-on experience in emerging technical areas, bridging the gap between academia and industry demands.
The Space Technology Centre of Excellence, in particular, is anticipated to provide significant support for student-led research and innovation in the space technology sector. By focusing on practical applications like satellite systems and rocketry, it aims to cultivate a new generation of space scientists and engineers.
This budget approval marks a significant step forward in AKTU's mission to enhance its educational offerings and research capabilities, positioning the university as a leader in technical education in India.
