The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the final results for the prestigious Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025. The Commission has recommended a total of 458 successful candidates for appointment to various Group 'A' and Group 'B' engineering services under the Central Government.
Discipline-Wise Selection and Vacancy Analysis
The selection process was based on a written examination held in August 2025, followed by Personality Tests conducted in October and November. The government had originally notified 554 vacancies across four core engineering disciplines. However, the final recommendations fall short of this number, indicating that several posts will remain unfilled after this recruitment cycle.
Civil Engineering dominated the selection list with 202 recommendations, followed by Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 116. Electrical Engineering saw 79 candidates make the cut, while Mechanical Engineering recorded 61 selections.
Category-Wise Distribution and Inclusion
The results highlight a significant focus on inclusive recruitment. Among the 458 recommended candidates, 26 belong to the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category. The Civil Engineering stream alone accounted for 15 of these PwBD selections.
The category-wise break-up released by UPSC is as follows:
- General Category: 168 candidates
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 50 candidates
- Other Backward Classes (OBC): 133 candidates
- Scheduled Castes (SC): 68 candidates
- Scheduled Tribes (ST): 39 candidates
Provisional List and Reserve Candidates
The Commission has clarified that the candidature of 102 recommended candidates is provisional, pending verification of their eligibility documents. Furthermore, UPSC has prepared a consolidated reserve list of 186 candidates across all four engineering streams. This reserve list may be operated in the future as per the Engineering Services Examination Rules, 2025, to fill any additional requirements.
Successful candidates will be appointed to key technical services, including the Indian Railways Service of Engineers, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, Central Water Engineering Service, Central Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Service, and the Border Roads Engineering Service.
