NEET-UG Candidate in Handcuffs Appears for Exam in Bihar
A NEET-UG candidate lodged in a Sitamarhi jail appeared for the medical entrance examination in handcuffs under heavy police escort at Kamala Girls School in Dumra on Sunday. The candidate, a resident of Bagaha village under Kanhauli police station, has been in judicial custody for the past 15 days in connection with an assault case.
Court Approval and Security Arrangements
Despite being in jail, he sought permission from the court to appear for the medical entrance examination, for which he had already registered. After receiving court approval, the jail administration and police made arrangements for him to take the test. He was brought from the divisional jail to the examination centre under tight security. After completing verification and other formalities, he was allowed to enter the examination hall and appear for the examination.
Attention at Examination Centre
The sight of a candidate arriving in handcuffs under police escort drew attention from other candidates and parents present at the centre. DSP Rajiv Kumar Singh said the candidate was in judicial custody in an assault case and was allowed to take the examination after obtaining permission from the court.
Details of the Assault Case
According to the FIR, the case relates to an incident on June 2. The complainant alleged that a motorcycle rider hit him near his house and left after an altercation. He further alleged that later in the evening, a group of people arrived at his residence armed with knives, rods and sticks. The complainant claimed he was attacked with a knife and assaulted along with family members who intervened. Several people sustained injuries and were admitted to sadar hospital. The candidate and his brother are among those named in the case. He has been lodged in jail in connection with the incident.
