NEET UG 2026: NTA Urges Candidates to Update Aadhaar, Category Certificates Now
NEET 2026: Update Aadhaar, Category Certs Before Applying

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a crucial advisory for students planning to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) in 2026. The agency has urged all prospective candidates to verify and update their essential documents, including Aadhaar card and category certificates, well before the application process begins. This pre-emptive step is aimed at preventing last-minute discrepancies and potential rejection during the admission process.

Mandatory Document Checklist for NEET 2026

In an advisory released on January 5, 2026, the NTA specified the documents that require careful attention. Aadhaar card details must be accurate, matching the candidate's name, date of birth (as per the Class 10 certificate), photograph, address, gender, and biometric information. For candidates belonging to reserved categories—Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)—it is imperative that their category certificates are current and fully compliant with the latest government requirements.

Similarly, persons with benchmark disabilities must ensure their Unique Disability ID (UDID) card or disability certificate is valid, updated, and renewed as per the stipulated guidelines. The NTA emphasized that overlooking these details could lead to complications at later stages of the application and admission process.

Stay Updated via Official Portals and Syllabus Release

Aspirants are strongly advised to monitor the official NTA website (nta.ac.in) and the dedicated NEET UG portal (neet.nta.nic.in) regularly for further updates, detailed instructions, and official notices regarding NEET UG 2026. In a related development, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has already published the NEET UG 2026 syllabus, which is available on its official website, nmc.org.in.

The syllabus for the medical entrance exam continues to be based on the Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum, with a focus on concepts from NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This early release allows students ample time to structure their preparation effectively.

Context from Previous Years and Cut-Off Trends

Looking at recent patterns, NEET UG 2025 was conducted on May 4, while the 2024 and 2023 exams were held on May 5 and May 7, respectively. The scale of the exam is massive; in the previous year, out of 22,76,069 registered candidates, a total of 22,09,318 appeared for the test. From these, approximately 12,36,531 candidates qualified for admission to undergraduate medical and allied courses.

The qualifying cut-off marks have seen a shift. For the general category (UR/EWS), the cut-off range dropped from 720-162 in 2024 to 686-144 in 2025. For OBC, SC, ST, and UR/EWS Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) categories, the cut-off stood at 143-113. For OBC PwD, SC PwD, and ST PwD candidates, the qualifying range was 126-113. These figures highlight the competitive nature of the examination and underscore the importance of a seamless application process, starting with valid documentation.

By proactively ensuring all documents are in order, candidates can focus entirely on their preparation without facing unnecessary administrative hurdles. The NTA's early warning serves as a critical reminder for all NEET UG 2026 aspirants to begin their journey by checking their paperwork first.
