KEA proceeds with option entry round for Karnataka seat allotment

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has moved ahead with the option entry round for seat allotment after reportedly receiving the final seat matrix for all courses except engineering. The development comes as a relief for thousands of students awaiting the allocation of seats in various professional courses across the state.

Option entry round initiated

According to an official from the KEA, the authority has begun the option entry process for candidates who have qualified in the Common Entrance Test (CET) and other entrance exams. The option entry round allows students to choose their preferred colleges and courses based on their ranks and availability of seats.

The KEA had earlier delayed the process pending receipt of the final seat matrix from the state government. However, with the matrix now in hand for most courses, the authority is proceeding without further delay.

Engineering seat matrix still awaited

While the seat matrix for medical, dental, ayurveda, homoeopathy, and other courses has been received, the engineering seat matrix is yet to be finalized. The KEA official stated that the engineering seat matrix is expected to be released soon, and the option entry for engineering seats will commence thereafter.

"We have received the final seat matrix for all courses except engineering. The option entry round is ongoing for the available courses. Engineering candidates will be able to exercise their options once the matrix is received," the official said.

Impact on students

The option entry round is a critical step in the seat allotment process. Students who have already exercised their options in the mock round can modify their choices during this period. The KEA has advised candidates to carefully review the available seats and make informed decisions.

More than 2 lakh students appear for the Karnataka CET every year, and the seat allotment process is closely watched by aspirants and their families. The delay in the engineering seat matrix had caused anxiety among students, but the KEA's move to proceed with other courses has provided some clarity.

Next steps

Once the option entry round is completed, the KEA will publish the seat allotment results. Candidates who secure seats will then need to report to their allotted colleges for document verification and admission formalities. The authority has urged students to keep checking the official website for updates.

"We are doing our best to expedite the process. Students should stay tuned to our website for any announcements regarding engineering seat options and the final allotment schedule," the KEA official added.
