Tailor's Daughter Scores 586/600, Aims for UPSC

In a remarkable achievement, V Dharshini, a student of a Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) school, has scored 586 out of 600 marks in the Class 12 board examinations. Her father, S Venkadesan, runs a small tailoring shop in Perambur, Chennai, and the family has faced financial constraints. Despite these challenges, Dharshini's dedication and hard work have paved the way for her dream of cracking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

Academic Excellence

Dharshini secured two centums in her exams, emerging as the second top scorer among all GCC schools in Chennai. Her impressive performance reflects countless hours of study and perseverance. She attributes her success to the unwavering support from her school teachers, who guided her through online classes and provided constant encouragement, especially when she was unwell during the examination period.

Career Aspirations

Driven by a keen interest in military affairs, geopolitics, national security, intelligence, and conflict resolution, Dharshini plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Defence and Strategic Studies. She believes this course will provide a strong foundation for her UPSC preparation. Speaking to TOI, she said, "The course will help me prepare for UPSC exams." However, given the family's financial limitations, private coaching centres are out of reach. Dharshini intends to utilize free UPSC coaching classes offered at the Chief Minister's co-working space in Periyar Nagar, Chennai.

"Dharshini wants to become an IAS officer and we are proud of her," Venkadesan added. The family's resilience and Dharshini's determination exemplify how ambition can overcome financial barriers.

Her story is an inspiration to many students from underprivileged backgrounds, demonstrating that with hard work and the right support, academic excellence and lofty career goals are achievable.
