ICAI Eligibility Rules for CA Final May 2026 Exam

ICAI Announces Comprehensive Eligibility Guidelines for CA Final May 2026 Examination

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has officially issued a detailed set of eligibility conditions for all candidates planning to appear in the highly anticipated CA Final examination scheduled for May 2026. The institute has emphasized that strict adherence to these requirements is mandatory, and failure to comply will result in disqualification from the examination.

Mandatory Course Registration and Portal Verification

All prospective examinees are strongly advised to thoroughly check their current status on the official Self Service Portal (SSP) before proceeding to fill out the examination application form. ICAI has made it explicitly clear that candidates must satisfy all prerequisites related to course registration, articleship training, Advanced ICITSS completion, and Self-Paced Online Modules. Those who do not complete any of these mandatory conditions within the prescribed timelines will not be permitted to appear for the May 2026 attempt.

Candidates must ensure their records are fully updated and compliant before submitting the application form. It is crucial to verify that all personal details, including photograph and signature, meet the specified standards. Additionally, candidates must be registered under the Final New Course to be eligible. Individuals still enrolled under the old scheme must convert to the new course through the SSP portal prior to applying, with no conversion fee required.

Articleship Training Completion Requirements

Eligibility for the CA Final exam is heavily dependent on the successful completion of articleship training. Candidates following the three-year or three-and-a-half-year articleship route must have completed their prescribed training period, including any excess leave, either before filling the form or on or before April 30, 2026. Those who are in the final six or twelve months of training as of May 1, 2026, and are scheduled to complete their training within the permitted extended timeline, are also eligible according to ICAI regulations.

For candidates registered under the two-year articleship route, they must have completed two full years of training, including excess leave, on or before October 31, 2025. Students who terminated their articleship earlier must re-register and ensure they are actively in service on May 1, 2026, and complete the remaining period within the allowed deadline.

Advanced ICITSS and Self-Paced Modules: Compulsory Components

ICAI has mandated the completion of the Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (Advanced ICITSS) before April 10, 2026, as a prerequisite for appearing in the May examination. This requirement is non-negotiable and must be fulfilled to avoid form rejection.

In addition, candidates must clear the required Self-Paced Online Module sets. The number of module sets necessary varies based on the candidate's previous attempt history and performance in the Intermediate examination. Students admitted in later attempts may need to complete all module sets before the April 10, 2026 deadline.

ICAI urges all candidates to meticulously review their eligibility status to prevent any last-minute issues or rejection of their examination forms. Proper planning and early verification are key to a smooth application process.
