Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) is set to establish a dedicated department of physical education and introduce three new professional programmes starting from the 2026-27 academic session.
New Integrated Teacher Education Programme
The university will launch the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), under which three new courses have been approved: BA-BEd, BSc-BEd, and BCom-BEd. According to DSMNRU spokesperson Yashwant Virodai, these programmes combine two degrees into a single four-year course, effectively saving one academic year for students. This integrated approach allows students to earn both a bachelor's degree in their chosen subject and a Bachelor of Education simultaneously.
Expansion in Sports Education
In addition to the ITEP, the new department of physical education will enable the university to offer specialised programmes such as BPEd (Bachelor of Physical Education) and MPEd (Master of Physical Education). This expansion aims to create more opportunities in sports education, fitness training, and related professional fields. The university expects these programmes to attract students interested in careers as physical education teachers, coaches, sports scientists, and fitness professionals.
The decision reflects DSMNRU's commitment to providing diverse educational pathways and meeting the growing demand for skilled professionals in the education and sports sectors. The university plans to finalise the curriculum and infrastructure requirements for the new department in the coming months.
