NEET UG 2026 Re-exam: 22.8 Lakh Candidates Today

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the NEET (UG) 2026 re-exam on Sunday, with 22.8 lakh candidates appearing across India. The examination takes place at 5,440 centres in 551 cities within the country and 14 locations abroad.

Language and Centre Details

Of the total aspirants, over 18 lakh will take the exam in English, while 3.5 lakh will opt for Hindi. The exam is being held in 95,000 rooms, each equipped with CCTV surveillance. A total of 1.4 lakh CCTVs and 51,311 jammers have been installed to prevent malpractice.

Every examination room has two invigilators, and each centre has more than 10 functionaries. The NTA has deployed 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 biometric staff to ensure smooth conduct. On average, 40–50 security personnel are stationed per centre.

Mock Drill and Security Measures

A mock drill was conducted across the country on the eve of the re-test to familiarize candidates and staff with procedures.

Incident in Ajmer

On Saturday, an unidentified caller allegedly showed a question paper via video call to a candidate in Ajmer and a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The caller offered the paper for Rs 30,000. Police are investigating the matter.

Nagpur Student Assigned Abu Dhabi Centre

A student from Nagpur was initially assigned an exam centre in Abu Dhabi. The NTA stated that the student made the city change from his login. A local centre has now been allotted. The student's family contests the NTA's claim.
