The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical and dental courses (NEET-UG) was conducted on Sunday across multiple centers in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore and Tirupur districts. In Coimbatore district, a total of 7,181 candidates had registered for the examination, of which 6,861 appeared, resulting in 320 absentees. The exam was held across 16 designated centers in the district.

Exam Timings and Entry Procedures

The examination commenced at 2 PM and concluded at 5:20 PM, with candidates permitted to enter the centers from 11 AM to 1:30 PM. Strict adherence to entry protocols was observed at all venues. Candidates underwent thorough frisking before being allowed inside the examination halls. In line with examination regulations, items such as digital watches, jewelry, and other restricted articles were removed by parents outside the centers. Electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and calculators, were strictly prohibited, prompting many candidates to hand over these items to their accompanying relatives before entering the premises.

Security Arrangements

Officials confirmed that elaborate security measures were implemented across all 16 centers to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the examination. The arrangements included multiple layers of checking and surveillance to prevent any malpractices. Candidates were required to comply with all instructions issued by the invigilators and center authorities.

Tirupur District Performance

In the neighboring Tirupur district, a total of 3,608 candidates were allotted for the exam, out of which 3,462 appeared, marking an attendance rate of 95.95%. The district also maintained strict security protocols similar to Coimbatore. The overall conduct of the examination in both districts was reported to be peaceful and incident-free.

The NEET-UG is a national-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges across India. The results are eagerly awaited by candidates and their families.
