Bhopal: In a suspected suicide attempt, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant suffered serious injuries after allegedly jumping from an overbridge near railway tracks in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna city on Saturday morning, police said.
The incident took place near the Bajranggarh overbridge, coming on the heels of another 18-year-old NEET aspirant taking her own life in Nagpur, leaving a note expressing her inability to take the retest on June 21. The teenager was found critically injured close to a railway track and was shifted to a private hospital where she was under treatment until the latest reports.
According to eyewitnesses, the teen lay injured at the spot for some time before help arrived. An elderly passerby reportedly noticed her and alerted others, following which locals arranged transport and drove her to a hospital. Police said the exact circumstances leading up to the incident were being probed, adding that they received information about an injured girl found near a railway track.
The sleuths said they learned that the girl was scolded by her family over her studies hours before the incident. Superintendent of police Hitika Vasal stated, “The exact reason why she took such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained. An investigation is underway and all aspects are being looked into.” Police added that the girl’s condition was deemed not stable enough for them to record a statement.
The incident has raised concerns about the pressure on students preparing for competitive exams like NEET. Authorities are urging families to provide emotional support and seek help if needed. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
