Nagpur police have initiated a formal investigation after reports emerged that a Class 12 Chemistry question paper was circulated on social media platforms prior to the Maharashtra board examination, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
Suspicious Activity Leads to Discovery of Exam Malpractice
The suspected exam malpractice came to light on Wednesday at a local high school in Nagpur. Invigilators observed a female student making frequent trips to the washroom during the exam, which raised immediate suspicions among the authorities.
Upon further inspection, the authorities confiscated the student's mobile phone. An examination of the device revealed that the Chemistry question paper had been shared in a WhatsApp group before the commencement of the exam.
Police Question Students and Probe Coaching Centre Link
Officials disclosed that not only was the question paper circulated, but potential answers were also exchanged within the same WhatsApp group. Based on the initial statement provided by the female student, police are now questioning another pupil in connection with the case.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that an individual associated with a private coaching centre may have been involved in sharing the paper. It is suspected that this act was carried out in return for monetary compensation, highlighting a potential breach of exam integrity.
Legal Action Taken as Case Registered
A formal case has been registered at the Sadar police station in Nagpur, marking a significant step in addressing the alleged exam fraud. The police are actively pursuing all leads to uncover the full extent of the malpractice and ensure accountability.
