Maharashtra Students Excel in JEE (Main) with Perfect 100 Percentile Scores

Two talented students from Maharashtra have emerged among the top performers in the country, securing a perfect 100 percentile in the JEE (Main) results announced on Monday. Seventeen-year-old Madhav Viradiya, originally from Vadodara but studying in Mumbai for the past two years, and eighteen-year-old Siddharth Athaley from Pune both achieved this remarkable feat across the combined two sessions of the exam.

Record Participation and Qualification Figures

Over 10 lakh students appeared for the second session held in April, contributing to a total of 15.4 lakh unique candidates who took the first-level qualifying test for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). From this large pool, 2.5 lakh students successfully qualified for the JEE (Advanced), with the general category cut-off percentile set at 93.412.

Madhav Viradiya's Journey to Success

Madhav Viradiya, a student at Narayana e-Techno School in Andheri, Mumbai, demonstrated exceptional dedication by appearing for both sessions of the JEE (Main). After scoring an impressive 291 out of 300 in the first session, he aimed for perfection in all three subjects in the second attempt. While he achieved full marks in physics and chemistry, three incorrect answers in mathematics resulted in a score of 285 for that session. However, for the combined national rankings, his higher score from the first session was considered, placing him at a national rank of 17 among the 26 toppers.

Like most IIT aspirants, Viradiya is now intensely focused on preparing for the JEE (Advanced). He has set his sights on securing a computer science and engineering seat at IIT-Bombay, but also plans to explore his interests in physics and astronomy alongside his engineering studies. Coming from an engineering background, his father is an engineer, and his elder brother is pursuing metallurgical engineering at IIT-Jodhpur.

Siddharth Athaley's Consistent Performance

Siddharth Athaley, hailing from Lokseva e-School and Junior College in Pune, also took the test in both sessions and managed to improve his performance significantly. In the first session, he scored a 99.986th percentile, and in the second session in April, he achieved a perfect 100 percentile. His overall national rank stands at 25, showcasing his consistent excellence.

Engineering was a natural choice for Athaley, as he comes from a family deeply rooted in the profession, with both his parents and elder sister working as engineers. His father specializes in civil engineering, while his mother is in electronics engineering. Despite this influence, Athaley has not yet finalized his preferred engineering branch or institute, concentrating instead on his JEE (Advanced) preparation. His sister is an IIT-Bombay graduate from the 2023 batch. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing cricket and the keyboard, balancing academics with hobbies.

Implications for Future Aspirants

The success of these Maharashtra students highlights the rigorous preparation and determination required to excel in competitive exams like the JEE (Main). Their achievements serve as an inspiration to thousands of aspirants across the country, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and strategic planning in academic pursuits. As they gear up for the JEE (Advanced), their stories underscore the critical role of family support and personal interests in shaping career paths.
