The recent official release of the CBSE Class X results has brought to light two significant trends in Ludhiana this academic year. A remarkable number of students have achieved scores above 99% in the examinations, and a clear majority of these top performers are expressing a strong preference for enrolling in the non-medical stream as they advance to Class XI.
Engineering and Technology Aspirations Drive Student Choices
Students who are selecting the non-medical stream firmly believe it provides the most effective pathway to gain admission into prestigious engineering institutes and to build future careers in technology-driven sectors. This includes opportunities in burgeoning start-up ecosystems, following successful performance in competitive examinations such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Satkarn Singh, a student from DAV Public School on Pakhowal Road who secured an impressive 99.2%, stated that he had already made the decision to opt for the non-medical stream. "My core interest lies in civil engineering. Although my family has a background in teaching, considering the current job market and opportunities, I am determined to prepare for the JEE as it opens up numerous options in the engineering field. This guidance has been strongly reinforced by my teachers, and many of my friends with similar high scores are also choosing this course," he explained.
Influence of Artificial Intelligence on Career Decisions
The growing perception of artificial intelligence as a transformative force in the future has significantly influenced the academic choices of students. Ridhima, a student from Sacred Heart Convent School in BRS Nagar who scored 99.4%, shared that her ambition is to become a software engineer. "I have a deep interest in AI and technology, and I see the non-medical stream as the ideal foundation to pursue these areas professionally," she said.
Girls Excel and Embrace Non-Medical Subjects
High-achieving female students have also demonstrated a pronounced inclination towards the non-medical stream, particularly favoring subjects like mathematics and physics. Saanjh Kaur, who attained 99.6% while studying at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School in Shastri Nagar, mentioned that she chose the non-medical stream due to her passion for maths and physics. "My ultimate goal is to become an actuarial scientist, and I am confident that this educational path is the best possible route to achieve that objective," she affirmed.
Exceptions to the Trend: Medical Stream Choices
Not all top scorers, however, have followed the non-medical route. Divyam, a student from DAV School who also scored 99.2%, opted for the medical stream because of his keen interest in biology. "My father works as an IT consultant, but I have always dreamed of becoming a surgeon. I am now actively exploring courses that will help me realize this goal and contribute to the healthcare sector," he stated.
Parental and Teacher Perspectives on the Shift
Parents and educators in Ludhiana have observed that these student choices reflect the increasing global and domestic demand for skilled professionals in technology-related fields. They note that the trend underscores a strategic alignment with future job markets and economic opportunities, both within India and abroad.
