The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has announced a crucial extension for students submitting their examination forms for the upcoming board exams. In a move that will bring relief to many, the board has pushed the final date for form submission for Class 10 and Class 12 (general stream) students.
Revised Submission Schedule and Key Dates
According to the latest directive from the board, students from the affected streams can now submit their examination forms until December 24. This provides an additional window for those who may have missed earlier deadlines. Furthermore, the board has also allowed time for corrections. The period for making corrections in forms that have already been submitted, along with obtaining the mandatory approval from school principals, has been extended until December 26.
No Extension for Science Stream Students
It is important to note that this extension does not apply to all students. The board has clarified that no extension has been granted for students of the Class 12 science stream. The form submission process for science stream candidates was conclusively completed on the previous Monday, as per the original schedule.
Background of the Form Submission Process
The board had initially commenced the online form-filling process for the public examinations scheduled for February, setting December 6 as the first deadline. This deadline was later extended to December 10 for all streams. Following this revised date, the board introduced a provision for late submissions by accepting forms with a late fee. This late submission window was structured in three phases, ultimately allowing students to submit until December 22 with penalty fees.
The latest announcement offers a further two-day grace period, but exclusively for Class 10 and Class 12 general stream students, without the imposition of a late fee for this specific extension. In a related instruction, the board has directed all schools to ensure that any pending examination fees are cleared by December 30.
Significant Student Participation
Official data released by the GSHSEB reveals substantial participation in the board exams this year. By the conclusion of the regular-fee submission period, examination forms for approximately 15.1 lakh (1.51 million) students had been successfully submitted. This massive number breaks down into nearly 8.9 lakh Class 10 forms, about 4.9 lakh Class 12 general stream forms, and around 1.2 lakh science stream forms.
This strategic extension by the Gujarat Board is expected to accommodate students and schools facing last-minute hurdles, ensuring a smoother and more inclusive examination registration process for the state's major academic event.
