Kanpur's Saras Mela 2024: Empowering Rural Women from Jan 4-6 at Moti Jheel
Saras Mela in Kanpur from January 4 to 6

The vibrant district and divisional level Saras Mela is all set to grace Kanpur, offering a platform for rural artisans and entrepreneurs. The event will be held at the scenic Moti Jheel Lawn over three days, from January 4 to January 6, 2024.

Planning and Participation for the Rural Fair

In a recent review meeting chaired by the Chief Development Officer, Deeksha Jain, key plans for the fair were solidified. A primary directive from the meeting was to ensure the participation of all districts falling under the Kanpur division. This inclusive approach aims to bring together a diverse range of rural talent and products on a single platform.

Jain meticulously reviewed the program's outline, timetable, and the overall action plan. She instructed all concerned departments to work in tandem and complete all logistical preparations within the stipulated deadline. Emphasizing the significance of the event, the CDO stated, "Saras Mela is an important initiative towards the promotion of rural livelihood, hence all the arrangements for the event should be ensured in a systematic and effective manner."

Focus on Women's Empowerment and Rural Economy

The core of the Saras Mela will be the stalls showcasing products manufactured by self-help groups (SHGs). These SHGs are associated with the transformative National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

CDO Deeksha Jain highlighted the dual objective of the fair. The stalls are designed not just to promote and market unique rural products, but also to significantly strengthen the economic empowerment of women. By providing direct market access, the fair enables women entrepreneurs to gain financial independence and recognition for their skills.
