The Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 30.13 crore for the post-harvest management and processing component of the Mizoram Ginger Unique Selling Proposition (USP) Project, according to an official press statement released on Thursday.
This development came shortly after the project was jointly inaugurated by Chief Minister Lalduhoma and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday evening.
The statement highlighted that the project, with a total outlay of Rs 189.78 crore, is titled Mizoram Ginger USP — Sustainable Cultivation & Value Chain Development Project. It aims to enhance the value chain of ginger cultivation in the state, from sustainable farming practices to efficient post-harvest processing.
The sanctioned funds will specifically support infrastructure and equipment for post-harvest management, including processing units, storage facilities, and training for farmers. This is expected to reduce post-harvest losses and increase the market value of Mizoram ginger, which is known for its unique quality.
The project aligns with the government's focus on boosting agricultural productivity and income in the northeastern region. Officials expressed optimism that the initiative will create employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy.
