NHAI Launches Barrier-Free Tolling on Delhi-Jaipur Highway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday introduced the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan, marking the state's first toll plaza equipped with barrier-less technology.

Officials stated that the system aims to ease traffic movement on one of the busiest highway stretches connecting the national capital with Rajasthan.

"Following the launch at Daulatpura, NHAI plans to transition toll plazas at Shahjahanpur and Manoharpur to the MLFF system, making commuting on the busy Delhi-Jaipur section seamless and barrier-free," a NHAI official said.

Under MLFF, conventional toll booths and lane barriers are replaced by smart overhead gantries. Vehicles pass beneath these gantries at highway speeds, while toll charges are deducted automatically through FASTag without requiring drivers to stop or slow down.

"The system eliminates physical booths and lane barriers, preventing traffic bottlenecks. It provides seamless travel and prevents unnecessary waste of fuel and time," an official added.

NHAI has advised motorists to ensure adequate balance in their FASTag accounts before using the corridor. Officials said vehicles with insufficient balance, invalid FASTag, or non-functional FASTag will receive an electronic notice (e-notice) for non-payment of toll charge.

"Such users will be required to pay a normal toll charge within 72 hours of the e-notice. In case of non-compliance after 72 hours, toll will be charged at twice the normal rate of the vehicle category. Non-payment of e-notices may result in blacklisting of FASTag and restriction of other vehicle-related services through the VAHAN platform," another NHAI official stated.

Earlier on May 2, 2026, NHAI launched the country's first MLFF-enabled tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat.
