The ongoing fuel crisis in Ranchi has begun to severely impact commercial activities and essential doorstep services across the capital. Industrial production, supply chains, and daily deliveries are bearing the brunt of the shortage, raising alarms among business leaders.
Industry Leaders Express Concern
Aditya Malhotra, president of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), described the situation as alarming. He noted that local entrepreneurs have already raised grievances as the shortage deepens across sectors. "Numerous business owners have approached us, highlighting severe operational bottlenecks due to the diesel crunch," Malhotra said. In several manufacturing sectors, heavy machinery that is entirely dependent on diesel has begun grinding to a halt. Furthermore, factories rely on diesel-powered backup generators during power outages, a safety net that has now been completely disrupted.
Supply Chain and Employment at Risk
Malhotra emphasized that the crisis is affecting the entire supply chain. "Beyond production, the entire supply chain is severely hit as businesses are unable to transport goods. If manufacturing remains affected, it will directly impact labour employment," he warned. He called for immediate resolution and urged the need for a regional-level fuel storage policy to insulate the state from similar shocks in the future.
Essential Services Disrupted
The fuel shortage has also begun disrupting the distribution of daily essentials. Milkmen and other delivery executives are struggling to keep their vehicles running. Manoj Linda, a local milkman, shared his plight: "I had to deliver milk on a bicycle today because my motorcycle ran out of petrol. If I fail to procure fuel by tomorrow, I will have to drastically shrink my delivery radius as covering long distances on a cycle is impossible."
The crisis continues to deepen, with no immediate relief in sight, as businesses and essential service providers scramble to cope with the scarcity of fuel.
