In a significant boost to rail connectivity in Punjab, the Indian Railways has officially extended the bi-weekly New Delhi–Moga Intercity Express service to Ferozepur starting this Monday. The extension comes as a response to long-standing public demand for better transportation links to this border district.
Direct Connectivity to National Capital
The formal flagging-off ceremony was conducted by BJP national executive member Rana Sodhi, who revealed that he had personally coordinated with the Union railways minister and the minister of state for railways to make this direct rail connection a reality. The train will now provide direct rail connectivity between Ferozepur and major religious centers as well as key cities across the country, eliminating the need for passengers to change trains for Delhi-bound journeys.
The extended service will operate from Ferozepur every Monday and Friday at 3:30 pm, offering convenient weekend travel options for residents and visitors alike. This strategic timing allows passengers to reach Delhi during optimal hours for business, tourism, or connecting journeys to other parts of India.
Major Infrastructure Development Approved
In another significant development for Punjab's transportation infrastructure, the Railways has given its approval for an important new rail link between Mallanwala and Patti. This project is strategically designed to strengthen connectivity between the Majha and Malwa regions of Punjab, potentially reducing travel time and improving economic integration between these important areas.
The state government has been formally requested to begin the land acquisition process for the Mallanwala-Patti rail link project. This indicates that the railway authorities are moving forward with implementation plans and awaiting state cooperation to commence physical work on the ground.
Enhanced Regional Development
The extension of the Delhi-Moga Intercity to Ferozepur represents more than just additional train services. It signifies the central government's focus on improving connectivity to border areas and supporting regional development through better transportation infrastructure. For residents of Ferozepur, this means easier access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and economic opportunities in the national capital region.
The combined impact of these railway initiatives is expected to boost tourism, facilitate trade, and strengthen cultural exchanges between different regions of Punjab and beyond. With improved rail connectivity, Ferozepur stands to benefit from increased mobility and economic activity that typically follows enhanced transportation links.
