Bokaro: The Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) management, in coordination with local police, conducted a successful early morning raid on Thursday, seizing 16 motorcycles inside the Kabriabad mines in the Giridih district. The operation was launched following intelligence inputs about illegal coal smuggling activities that have been disrupting mining operations in the area.
Background of the Raid
According to officials, coal smugglers have been frequently entering the mines under the cover of darkness, using motorcycles to steal coal and cause significant disruptions to mining operations. A similar attempt was made around 3 am on Thursday when a group of smugglers reportedly entered the mine premises with multiple bikes, intending to carry out their illegal activities.
Swift Action Based on Tip-Off
Acting on a tip-off from the CCL security team, General Manager Girish Kumar Rathore alerted Project Officer Gopal Singh Meena, who immediately informed the Mufassil police station. A joint team was quickly assembled, and a swift raid was conducted inside the mine, catching the smugglers off guard.
Seizure and Investigation
During the raid, the smugglers managed to escape under the cover of darkness, leaving behind their vehicles. A total of 16 motorcycles used in the illegal activity were seized from the spot. Project Officer Gopal Singh Meena stated, "The vehicles will be used to identify those involved in the smuggling operations." The seized motorcycles are expected to provide crucial leads for further investigation.
Impact on Coal Smuggling
This raid is part of ongoing efforts by CCL and local law enforcement to curb coal smuggling in the region. The illegal extraction and theft of coal not only cause financial losses to the company but also pose safety risks and disrupt legitimate mining activities. The authorities have vowed to continue such operations to ensure the protection of coal resources and maintain law and order in the mining areas.
