The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two major National Highway widening projects in Telangana, covering a total length of 190.76 kilometers at a cost of ₹7,597.16 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave the green light for the widening of the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section of NH-63 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563 on a Build-Operate-Transfer basis, both to four-lane standards.
Project Details and Benefits
According to an official statement, the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section passes through the Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Mancherial districts. This stretch currently experiences severe congestion due to numerous built-up areas along the highway, including Ankapur, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, and Mancherial. Similarly, the Jagtial-Karimnagar section faces heavy congestion as it traverses densely populated areas such as Jagtial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar.
The projects will feature a four-lane configuration with bypasses around built-up areas, open tolling, and a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. This is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency across the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar.
Expected Reductions in Travel Time and Emissions
Upon completion, travel time is anticipated to decrease by approximately one hour and 30 minutes between Armoor and Mancherial, and by about 45 minutes between Jagtial and Karimnagar. The upgraded highways will provide safe, fast, and uninterrupted connectivity for both passenger and freight traffic. Additionally, the project will lead to substantial reductions in fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and vehicle operating costs.
The developments are expected to enhance regional mobility and promote socio-economic development in the region. The government emphasized that these initiatives align with its commitment to improving national infrastructure and boosting economic growth.
